The mighty kauri is one of the most extraordinary trees in the world and holds deep cultural, environmental and spiritual significance in Aotearoa.

Waahi Whaanui are working in partnership with Tiakina Kauri. The Kauri rejuvenation kaupapa continues to grow as an important environmental initiative that supports the restoration and protection of our native ngahere for future generations.

Our Kauri trees are dying. Kauri are currently under threat from a disease called Kauri Dieback. This microscopic soil-borne disease attacks the roots of kauri trees and can eventually kill them.

Whaanui have planted 30,000 kauri seeds. This incredible milestone would not have been possible without the dedication and hard mahi of our volunteers and kaimahi who spent many hours preparing, sorting and potting seeds.

A huge mihi to our volunteers who continue to contributed to this kaupapa. The scale of this mahi was massive, and your commitment and aroha to Kauri rejuvenation will continue for many years to come.
