TAIAO - Environmental Services

Taiao

When we care for our Whenua and our Wai our whaanau will be cared for. Te Roopu Taiao is our Taiao team here at Waahi Whaanui they facilitate and oversee all environmental issues or projects within the Waahi Whaanui area of responsibility. Representing the whaanau, marae and hapuu of the area, its objective is to ensure that all environmental developments are constructed and managed in a culturally and environmentally sustainable way.

It involves the strategic development and execution of health programs that are grounded in Maaori values, beliefs, and practices. By prioritizing cultural relevance and community engagement, this approach aims to empower individuals and promote collective health and wellness among Whaanau, Hapuu and Marae.

These counsellors are previous staff of Waahi Whaanui Trust and are familiar with the needs of local whaanau.

As we navigate the complexities of modern parenting, programs like the Incredible Years offer invaluable tools and hope for a brighter future.‍

HIPPY Graduation Program: Empowering Families Through Education

HIPPY (Home Interaction Programme for Parents and Youngsters) is a FREE home-based programme that helps parents to get their 2-5-year-old* child ready for success in education. HIPPY builds connections HIPPY supports families from diverse ethnic and geographic groups and those most at risk because of poverty, parents’ limited education, and social isolation. HIPPY helps parents build confidence and skills to create a positive learning environment to prepare their children for school. Parents are actively supported through Home Visits and Group Meetings, where they connect with other parents. Each HIPPY area is managed by a qualified, professional coordinator working with para-professional tutors.

Financial Capability: Empowering Whaanau for a Brighter Future

MoneyMates support groups are based around the concept of sharing and learning together as a group. This approach works in both large and small communities, as proven with programmes such as Weight Watchers. Facilitators encourage group members to learn from others, get control over their financial lives, and build resilience.

Embracing rangatahi: Waahi Whaanui welcome Ira Koopuu and Oranga Rangatahi.

Today Waahi Whaanui Trust welcomed Ira Koopu and Oranga Rangatahi to our whaanau. Both Ira Koopu and Oranga Rangatahi will utilise Te Whare Wai Ora for the mahi they do alongside Rangatahi.

Behind the Scenes: A Day in the Life of Our Social Workers in Schools (SWIS)

Social Workers in Schools, also known as SWIS, is a FREE service that support your child and family to learn, grow and thrive. Whether you need help with school, at home or with things like health services. Social Workers in Schools are trained professionals who work in partnership with you and your school. We want to enhance the life of your child and family. This service is for all children and families in your school community. We focus on working with you to address any issues at any early stage and build on your family’s strengths. The earlier we can work with you, the better the outcomes for your child and family. So, whatever you need help with please come and talk to us.

Marae Resilience and Collaboration with Civil Defense Emergency Management
At Waahi Whaanui Trust, we recognize the vital role marae play in community resilience, particularly during times of crisis and emergency. Marae are integral to our cultural fabric and serve as hubs for social, cultural, and spiritual activities. Ensuring marae resilience and preparedness is a priority for us, and we actively collaborate with Civil Defense Emergency Management (CDEM) agencies to enhance our readiness and response capabilities.

- Regular training sessions and drills are conducted to ensure marae representatives and community members are well-equipped to respond effectively to emergencies.
