Marae Resilience and Collaboration with Civil Defense Emergency Management
At Waahi Whaanui Trust, we recognize the vital role marae play in community resilience, particularly during times of crisis and emergency. Marae are integral to our cultural fabric and serve as hubs for social, cultural, and spiritual activities. Ensuring marae resilience and preparedness is a priority for us, and we actively collaborate with Civil Defense Emergency Management (CDEM) agencies to enhance our readiness and response capabilities.
Our Commitment:
Preparedness and Planning:
- We work closely with CDEM agencies to develop and maintain robust emergency preparedness plans tailored to the specific needs of marae and our community.
- Regular training sessions and drills are conducted to ensure marae representatives and community members are well-equipped to respond effectively to emergencies.
Communication and Coordination:
- Effective communication channels are established between marae, CDEM agencies, and other relevant stakeholders to facilitate timely information sharing during emergencies.
- We participate in local emergency response networks and committees to strengthen coordination and collaboration across sectors.
Resource and Support Networks:
- We assist marae in identifying and accessing resources, such as emergency supplies, equipment, and support services, to enhance their resilience capabilities.
- Collaborative efforts with CDEM agencies enable us to leverage additional resources and expertise to support marae during crisis situations.
Community Engagement and Education:
- We promote community resilience through educational initiatives and workshops that empower marae and community members with essential emergency preparedness and response skills.
- Cultural considerations and protocols are integrated into our resilience initiatives to respect and uphold the values and traditions of marae.
Get Involved:
- Join our efforts to strengthen marae resilience by volunteering for training programs or emergency response teams in your rohe.
- Stay Informed: Stay updated on emergency preparedness tips and community initiatives through our website and local communications.
